Many have concluded that it is a good email marketing platform, saying that their experience with Mailchimp is great.
Mailchimp has undergone a remarkable shift in its strategy. Mailchimp has moved beyond being a small business digital marketing tool. It is now catering to merchants by providing Website and Commerce plans.
With these plans, businesses can access service booking features and create online stores. The best part is that these plants are free to build. Users only get charged when they make a sale, with a 2% per-order transaction fee for the free tier.
This move was a result of Mailchimp’s previous acquisition, which includes the automated design platform, Sawa. Also, a survey platform big team and an AI content platform, Inspector 6.
Unlike many competitors who have merely added new software to their marketing suites, Mailchimp has done the post-purchase integration work to make these engines part of its core platform. Mailchimp is one platform that doesn’t disappoint. Additionally, with the Mailchimp platform, you can easily receive and send emails to a customer.
Mailchimp’s purchase of Chatitive in January 2021 is a case in point. The purchase of the two-way SMS marketing platform has allowed Mailchimp to offer SMS marketing to its customers. Mailchimp has therefore become the only platform that solves email marketing needs.

Unlock the magic of Mailchimp Pricing
Mailchimp has managed to maintain its straightforward pricing structure despite the addition of all these new features. The free plan is a great way to try out the platform and gives you access to seven marketing channels. One-click automation, basic templates, a CRM, surveys, websites, and custom domains.
This makes Mailchimp an attractive and friction-free option for those wanting to know the platform. What I love about Mailchimp is that it is easy to use. With a few alternatives to Mailchimp, it provides the tools you need for sending emails.
The pricing model for Mailchimp is based on the number of contacts, making it easier to scale your subscription. The free tier is perfect for up to 2,000 contacts and offers a maximum of 10,000 monthly email sends. This is more than enough for an initial campaign or a test run.
Larger businesses can use Mailchimp’s online calculator to get an exact price based on the estimated number of subscribers. For instance, a monthly plan for 5,000 subscribers costs $74.99 per month.
In addition to all the new features added to the platform, Mailchimp has had to up its pricing. Nonetheless, it is still competitive compared to other email marketing tools in the market.
The Essentials Package, which is designed for heavy email users, starts at $9.99 per month and accommodates up to 50,000 contacts. The Standard Package, which offers custom-coded templates and automation, is priced at $14.99 per month.
Finally, the Premium package costs $299.99 per month and supports more than 200,000 contacts. It also includes multivariate testing, custom domains, and advanced audience segmentation, and now offers direct phone support.
Comparing Mailchimp to its competitors, it’s obvious that the platform offers a great deal. For instance, the Standard Plan at $14.99 can incorporate up to 50,000 contacts compared with Campaigner’s mid-tier plan, which costs $19.95 and only handles up to 5,000 contacts.
Besides, Mailchimp’s paid plans don’t have a sending cap. However, businesses still have to pay for email credits based on the number of emails sent. This is a unique feature, which sets Mailchimp apart from the competition.
It’s critical to remember that Mailchimp doesn’t offer refunds for unused email credits. Unfortunately, businesses will lose their credits if their account is canceled or shut down for spamming.
Despite this, Mailchimp’s pricing model is still very attractive for businesses looking for detailed marketing solutions that are also cost-effective.
Mailchimp Review Marketing Tools and Features.
Mailchimp has undergone a remarkable shift and is now offering services that surpass email marketing. The company has made all these new capabilities available as part of its core platform. All this ranges from new analytics and automation to gathering audience data spread across social services like Instagram and Facebook.
Mailchimp’s move into multi-channel marketing is remarkable, and the addition of not just CRM capabilities. Additionally, the new website builder and domain buying and hosting services make it a great marketing hub for SMBs.
These new automation and multi-channel capabilities give businesses the flexibility to reach their customers across different channels.
One of the most remarkable enhancements that Mailchimp has made is the addition of artificial intelligence (AI). This helps with audience analytics and provides smart, context-sensitive recommendations on how to optimize your marketing campaign.
The AI bases those recommendations on whatever activities you’ve done previously. Also, user data from other Mailchimp customers, and best practices for specific industries.
This feature is especially useful for SMBs and newcomers to email marketing who are learning how to build their first campaign and navigate the deeper Mailchimp features.
Generally, Mailchimp’s evolution and advancement into a marketing hub are impressive, and it’s a one-stop shop for SMBs looking for a comprehensive marketing solution.
The addition of new features and AI capabilities demonstrates Mailchimp’s commitment to making email marketing accessible to everyone.
As a result, Mailchimp has become a champion in the digital marketing space. Mailchimp provides a complete and archaic solution to businesses of all sizes. Mailchimp is super easy to use as it can perform so many
functions like collecting email addresses and designing your emails. Mailchimp integrates a lot, making it easy to use the platform. With improvements in internet use and access, Mailchimp makes it easy for users to navigate with a lot of ease.
Consider Mailchimp: Mobile Features and Functionality
Mailchimp’s mobile apps, available on iOS and Android, allow businesses to create and send campaigns directly from smartphones and tablets. This is a significant advantage over Campaigner, one of Mailchimp’s competitors.
One of the outstanding features of Mailchimp’s mobile app is that it lets businesses add promo codes to their emails. Also landing pages, and even re-market via Google Ads.
The app also offers Alerts that let businesses know when they are reaching a pricing threshold and can automatically reload credits. The app also lets businesses use their subscriber data to create custom ads on Facebook and Instagram.
The new Inbox Preview feature, available on the web app, lets businesses know how their emails will look. It shows how businesses will appear across more than 40 desktop, web, and mobile email clients.
Regrettably, this feature comes at an extra cost, with Mailchimp requiring businesses to use “tokens” to access the feature. The company provides 25 tokens as part of its base membership, but Mailchimp Standard customers can use 1,000 free tokens per month.
These tokens expire after a 30-day billing cycle. Businesses can go for additional tokens in bundles of 25 for $3 each. This additional pricing can be expensive for businesses that design many templates. As a result, this could dent the easy cost structure that Mailchimp offers.
Despite this, Mailchimp’s mobile functionality is impressive. And the mobile app is a great way for businesses to manage their campaigns on the go.
The addition of features like Alerts, custom ads, and promo codes make it a versatile app that can help businesses increase their engagement and sales.
From idea to success: The Mailchimp way
Irrespective of all the new capabilities that Mailchimp has added, the platform still provides the best SMB email marketing feature sets in the industry.
The interface hasn’t become much more complex, even after all the add-ons were integrated. And this is great news for existing customers. Once businesses activate their service and enable their store (if they opted for that), Mailchimp can help them immediately create their first email, add contacts, and send out their first campaign.
In our testing, we started by importing our test contacts from an Excel spreadsheet with 50 entries. We managed the import by copying and pasting our contacts directly from Excel into Mailchimp.
Nevertheless, in our first attempt, the contact fields all ended up in the same column. We had to cut and paste each contact separately to get all our contact data into the right columns: first name, last name, phone number, physical address, and email address and email list.
That’s cumbersome, and a simpler process would be welcomed here. Although Mailchimp support can help those with large lists. A visit to the Mailchimp website will guide you through the Mailchimp list and what email will look like.
Before defining a campaign, businesses have to decide if everyone on their list is going to get the email or just a segment. Creating a subscriber segment is easy, and businesses can manually copy and paste a list of recipient email addresses from their overall list. Also, they can use a segment they’ve previously created, or build a series of filters that automatically create the subset for them.
Filtering according to criteria like landing page activity, campaign activity, or the contacts’ geographic location is the easiest way if businesses have a large overall list.
Another pre-campaign step is proving that businesses are not spammers. Mailchimp has stringent requirements to keep spammers out. And businesses have to go to the Domains page under Account Settings to verify their domain.
Mailchimp is the best when it comes to email marketing campaigns, beating other email providers like Gmail. Currently, Mailchimp is the only platform that provides email marketing solutions.
After businesses enter their email address, they’ll get a verification email. After clicking it, they’ll get a notification that the domain either has or hasn’t been verified.
In the Campaign Builder screen, there’s another option to verify the “From” email address. If businesses have already verified their domain, then they can skip this step.
Businesses can set tracking options for who opened their email messages and which campaign links were clicked. Mailchimp also has an enhanced tracking option that works by linking to businesses. website’s Google Analytics (GA), Highrise, or Salesforce Einstein accounts or by tracking user engagement via Clicktale.
However, smaller businesses that don’t use separate business intelligence (BI) apps might wish for more robust reporting in-app.
Email Marketing Solutions with Mailchimp
Mailchimp provides a variety of email options to businesses. The Regular campaign is an HTML email with a plain-text alternative. There is also an Automated email campaign that incorporates the automation we described above to let businesses send messages automatically.
The Plain-text campaign uses no pictures or formatting, but a barebone view that few marketers will want to use in this day and age. Finally, a Multivariate testing campaign lets businesses test up to eight different variations of an email to see which message is more effective.
Mailchimp’s email builder has 14 layouts and 90 themes to choose from. The tool is template-driven, but there’s an HTML editor for custom designs. Businesses have limited options but can still create unique templates.
The Email Template Reference Guide has code examples and other tips to help businesses design their emails. Hence this should help newcomers build an acceptable template-driven email design.
However, compared to competitions like Get Response and Editors’ Choice Sendi blue, Mailchimp’s template designer was a lackluster experience.
Its simplicity is great, but it’s so simple that it’ll limit businesses’ customization options since it’s rigid about adhering to the template frame.
It supports a drag-and-drop style for outside elements. Unfortunately, this didn’t always work. Therefore, businesses need to test those elements to make sure they won’t give their template any trouble.
An HTML-savvy admin or developer can design Mailchimp templates with CSS. This offers businesses more flexibility. They can create unique templates.
We built a basic newsletter advertising lamp deals using the existing templates and sent it to six recipients from our contact list. The template email tool was straightforward to use, and it’s a simple process to import images and add text.
If businesses use a template and don’t update each section with new text, they’ll get prompted to do so before sending their message. They can then preview their email, schedule their post, and specify the number of batches.
Tracking the Performance of Your Mailchimp Campaign
Mailchimp provides good analytics and is quite easy to navigate with many business owners attesting to this fact. The dashboard includes a “Predicted Demographics” section, where you can analyze the various demographic slices of your contact list.
This data can help you create new segments so that you can target your campaigns more efficiently. You can filter your data by total recipients, opens, and clicks. The user interface is intuitive and easy to use, making it a great choice for businesses that are new to email marketing.
While Mailchimp’s simplicity is one of its strengths, it can also be limiting, particularly for marketers who manage multiple audiences. Although it is easy to prepare your list with groups and tags, managing multiple audiences is not for Mailchimp.
We found some challenges in setting up our tracking as the user guides were not detailed enough to provide all the information we wanted.
For example, we had difficulty figuring out how custom URLs would work, which is a common email marketing strategy. However, once we figured out the tracking features, they worked fine.
As part of our test, we set up an online store, which enabled us to generate reports on average order revenue and total revenue through our email campaigns.
We also analyzed the open rate on our campaign emails and other metrics like the total number of recipients. We also analyzed successful deliveries, the number of people who opened the email, and the percentage of people who clicked through. Although the in-app reports are limited, you can create your metric tracking using an external BI tool.
Mailchimp offers product recommendation features that provide solutions. It uses purchase data from your online store to suggest products from your inventory that your email subscribers might like.
You can include up to 10 of these recommendations in your emails. You can see how many sales resulted from them in each email blast when you’re analyzing your reports. With Mailchimp email marketing, many have decided to choose MailChimp.
Mailchimp is still the best SMB email marketing option and many have started using it. With its new capabilities, it has become a full-fledged digital marketing hub. It caters to merchants with its website builder and commerce plans.
Its interface is still intuitive and simple, which is great for newcomers but can be a limiting factor for more advanced marketers. Its pricing structure is straightforward, with a free plan that offers plenty of features.
The email builder is template-driven, which limits your options, but it’s straightforward to use. Its analytics are good and easy to find, but it can have trouble managing multiple audiences.
Generally, Mailchimp is a solid choice for small businesses and newcomers to email marketing, with enough features to grow into a more robust digital marketing platform.
As digital strategists, we’ve been using Mailchimp for quite some time. Hence, we’ve had to write down our experience with Mailchimp, and many users would highly recommend MailChimp. Think Mailchimp, consider Mailchimp.
