Pros

  • Great performance
  • Durable battery
  • Gorgeous screen

Cons

  • Expensive

Notably, you didn’t overlook the Oppo Find X4. The X5 follows the 2021 X3 series, joined by the X5 Pro and X5 Lite. Starting at £749 in the UK, it competes with strong contenders: the Samsung Galaxy S22 (£819, 256GB storage) and iPhone 13 (£829, 256GB storage).

The X5 is priced slightly below those high-end flagships, aligning with Oppo’s strategy. Offering savings without significant compromises, it’s a worthwhile choice for budget-conscious users.

This phone excels in impressive design, AMOLED screen clarity, smooth performance, and exceptional camera quality in low light.

In a crowded market, gauging if the Oppo Find X5 balances mid-range and flagship categories is subjective. Its appeal depends on aesthetics and personal smartphone priorities.

While the Find X5 doesn’t incorporate Marisilicon X technology, its strong hardware specs and camera improvements showcase Oppo’s dedication to enhancing the user experience.

Availability and Price

The Oppo Find X5 is purchasable starting at £749 from UK retailers like Amazon and Carphone Warehouse. It’s also directly available from Oppo. The cost is approximately $980 / AU$1,285, but, as is typical with Oppo, the phone isn’t available in the US or Australia.

Design

The Oppo Find X5 boasts a cohesive design, with a matte finish on the back that’s smooth, textured, and fingerprint-resistant. We give the X5 a resounding thumbs-up and anticipate similar design choices from other manufacturers.

The distinct rear camera layout is appealing, and the entire handset has an aesthetically pleasing design. Color choices include black, white, and purple – we reviewed the elegant black variant, which we find to be the standout option.

Featuring a 6.55-inch screen, the Oppo Find X5 measures 160.3 mm x 72.6 mm x 8.7 mm (6.31 inches x 2.86 inches x 0.34 inches). Weighing 196 grams (6.9 ounces), it is positioned between the Oppo Find X5 Pro and Oppo Find X5 Lite in weight and screen size. Thanks to slim bezels. It’s marginally more compact than the Lite version.

The power button is on the right, and the volume controls are on the left. The bottom houses the SIM tray, USB-C port, and single speaker. An additional speaker sits atop, neatly integrated into the bezel.

Unlike the Oppo Find X5 Pro, this model lacks IP68 waterproof and dustproof ratings. Care is needed while carrying. This trade-off comes with a more affordable price tag. However, the Oppo Find X5 remains an attractive smartphone that you’d proudly show off.

Display

The 6.55-inch AMOLED screen of the Oppo Find X5 is gently curved, achieving 1,000 nits’ brightness, HDR10+ support, and a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s a highlight, graced only by a small selfie camera notch in the top left.

The panel offers 1080 x 2400-pixel resolution, a 20:9 aspect ratio, delivering sharp, legible text and details. Vibrant colors are enhanced by the high brightness and OLED technology used.

The display excels across various uses: gaming with fast motion, social media slideshows, and stunning animated wallpapers.

Camera

Expect impressive shots from the Oppo Find X5 cameras, although they may not lead the camera market. The X5 features a triple-lens setup on its back: 50 MP wide, 13 MP telephoto, and 50 MP ultrawide modules. These lenses excel in various lighting conditions.

The 2x optical zoom lacks impact, yet photos are sharp, vibrant, and detailed. Transitioning to ultrawide mode is seamless; distortion and color shifts are absent. Press the shutter for high-quality images.

Low-light photos are impressive, albeit with slightly longer capture and processing times. Some detail loss and oversaturated colors occur, yet usable images result. The 32 MP front camera performs well too.

The rear camera is where the extra cost of the Oppo Find X5 shines. It’s fast, versatile, and accurate. While it may not match pricier flagship phones in some aspects, like automatic HDR performance, the X5’s rear camera stands strong.

Phone cameras have progressed significantly, exemplified by the Oppo Find X5. Top-notch results don’t require high costs. Though optical zoom reaches only 2x, users will likely be content with the phone’s impressive photo capabilities.

The Oppo Find X5 stands out with its remarkable camera, capturing stunning photos. Unlike some other Android phones, the X5 doesn’t rely on last year’s Android version. It ensures a modern experience for users who prioritize up-to-date software.

Performance and Specs

The Oppo Find X5 features the capable Snapdragon 888 processor. The X5 Pro uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 2022’s top CPU Performance differences are negligible, but the Pro model might offer a slightly longer lifespan before an upgrade.

In our tests, the specs resulted in Geekbench scores: 782 (single-core), 3362 (multi-core), and 4546 (OpenCL). Benchmarks partly reflect performance, comparable to the Pro model. This is a realm for potential savings with minimal compromise.

Performance with the Oppo Find X5 is smooth. Menus respond promptly, games run fluidly, and app-switching is seamless. The lag was absent during testing. Though there are no future guarantees, this device promises years of usability on paper.

As anticipated, 5G support is available. The phone accommodates both physical nano-SIM and eSIM simultaneously. Regarding the stereo speakers mentioned earlier, they excel at audio playback. From subtle dialogues to booming music, these speakers left a strong impression.

The Oppo Find X5 is equipped with an impressive 8GB of RAM, ensuring smooth multitasking and efficient performance. Its collaboration with Marisiliconx and Hasselblad signifies a commitment to quality and innovation in the camera department.

Software

This phone operates on Android 12 with a ColorOS overlay. ColorOS is satisfactory, but preinstalled apps like AliExpress, Amazon, Facebook, and duplicates like Oppo Photos alongside Google Photos could be minimized.

ColorOS, akin to Chinese Android variations, is feature-rich with numerous settings and customizations. Some prove more practical than others; the Smart Sidebar, allowing swift access to preferred apps, remains questionable in usefulness.

We lean towards Google’s Pixel phones’ straightforward stock Android, but ColorOS appeal differs. It’s rich in exploration opportunities. Android’s nature allows customization, simplifying the OS and removing Oppo’s add-ons.

Battery Life

The Oppo Find X5 boasts a 4,800mAh battery that performs admirably throughout the day. With moderate use, around 40% of the battery remained daily, offering the potential for a second day’s use and more with caution.

While streaming videos at full brightness, the battery decreased by 7% per hour, allowing around 14-15 hours of total playback. For demanding tasks like navigation with screen and GPS, the drain was about 12% per hour – quite impressive.

Should you buy the Oppo Find X5?

You seek exceptional camera quality.

Rapid 80W charging, 30W wireless charging, and reverse 10W charging for accessories are included. These specs are solid, though lack the X5 Pro’s 50W wireless charging. It’s a point worth considering in the X5 lineup comparison.

Swift charging takes precedence.

While the Pro model excels in wireless charging speed, the X5’s 80W wired and 30W wireless charging are noteworthy.

You require extended battery life.

While long-term battery performance isn’t assured, our tests showed the Oppo Find X5’s durability—a definite advantage.
